Lily Berthold is an up and coming operatic soprano based in Los Angeles. After making her operatic debut in the summer of 2023 as Die Zauberflöte’s ill-fated heroine Pamina, Lily has quickly become an in demand singer. The young soprano is making her mark on the opera scene throughout California, having already performed as a soloist with many notable companies statewide (Opera SLO, Pacific Lyric Association, Lyric Opera OC, & more). Lily made multiple role debuts in her 2024 season, including: Adina (L’elisir), Lauretta (Gianni Schicchi), Gretel (Hänsel und Gretel), Suor Genovieffa (Suor Angelica), & Valencienne (The Merry Widow). Lily was the 1st prize winner of the prestigious Sigma Alpha Iota PAC Aria Competition in March 2024, and placed 3rd in the Randy Nelson Vocal Competition in April 2024. In the upcoming season, Lily will sing Roughhouse Flynn in Lyric Opera OC’s production of The Mighty Casey by American composer William Schuman (March 2025), Frasquita in Guild Opera’s production of Bizet’s Carmen (June 2025), & Gilda in a concert production of Verdi’s Rigoletto with Woodley Concert Corner (July 2025).
Ms. Berthold is in the first year of her Master’s Degree, attending Bob Cole Conservatory of Music (BCCM) at California State Univ. Long Beach, graduating in 2026. In her first semester at BCCM, she performed scenes in the roles of Adina (L’elisir) & Donna Anna (Don Giovanni), and in the Spring of 2025 she will return to the role of Pamina for BCCM Opera’s Die Zauberflöte.
